Special Olympic Ireland Summer Games 2026

Over the past week, we had the privilege of following six incredible Team Eastern athletes as they took part in the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games 2026 – and what an unforgettable journey it was.

The excitement began as we gathered to wish Leon, Maria, Pauline, Tom, Paula and Matthew the very best of luck as they set off to represent Team Eastern on the national stage. Before their departure, we came together to give the athletes a special send-off, filling EVE Estuary HUB with encouragement, excitement and pride as we wished them success for the days ahead.

Following their arrival at the Games, the athletes joined thousands of competitors, coaches, volunteers and supporters at the spectacular Opening Ceremony, which officially marked the beginning of four incredible days of sport, friendship and celebration. The ceremony captured everything that makes Special Olympics so special – inclusion, courage, achievement and community.

Throughout the Games, our athletes represented Team Eastern with pride, determination and sportsmanship. From early starts and competition days to medal presentations, celebrations and dancing with friends old and new, every day brought new experiences and unforgettable memories.

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our athletes, each of whom returned home with medals and accomplishments to be proud of. While the medals are a wonderful recognition of their hard work and dedication, the friendships formed, experiences shared and confidence gained are equally important and reflect the true spirit of Special Olympics.

None of this would be possible without the incredible support surrounding our athletes. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the coaches, volunteers, families and supporters whose encouragement, commitment and dedication helped make this experience so special.

Most importantly, thank you to our athletes. Your determination, resilience, positivity and team spirit inspired everyone who followed your journey. You reminded us all that Special Olympics is about so much more than sport – it is about courage, inclusion, friendship and believing in what is possible.

The celebrations continued when Team Eastern returned home, where they received the warm welcome they deserved. With sunshine, music, a BBQ and plenty of smiles, we came together to celebrate their achievements and relive the memories of an incredible week. Even our WOW Café got in on the action, transforming into a disco on wheels for the occasion!

As we look back on an unforgettable Summer Games, one thing is certain – the memories made over those four days will stay with us for a lifetime.

Together we celebrated. Together we achieved. Together we inspired.

Congratulations, Team Eastern. We couldn’t be prouder.
