Healthy Minds l Online Programme l Emotions and Feelings

As part of this week’s Healthy Minds programme on Webex with Daniel.

We discussed our emotions and feelings and how to manage/control anger, Here is what we looked at:

  • Recognising your feelings and emotions and talking about these
  • We all are experiencing all types of emotions and feelings throughout our lives, and it’s essential to understand and communicate them.
  • The following are some examples of basic emotions and feelings: sadness, happiness, fear, anger, surprise, disgust, anger, joy, trust.
  • We feel the emotions such as joy, surprise, love, fear, anger with or in our body, whereas we experience our feelings with our mind such as happiness, sadness, loneliness. However, some of our emotions and feelings can overlap and feel the same – happiness (joy, contentment, satisfaction), enjoyment (safe, relaxed, connected), sadness (lonely, worried, disappointed, stressed).

Anger is a normal emotion, but when you are angry you may say something or do something that could be harmful to you or others around you; that’s why it’s important to learn how to communicate when we are feeling angry and know how to express it safely.
1.      When you are angry, it is good for you and others around you to know what made you angry.
2.      Relax and think about your breathing
3.      Don’t shout
4.      Tell someone you trust you are angry and talk about what happened.
5.      Think of the things that you can control and what you cannot control. We can control how we behave, speak and what we do. we cannot control what other people are saying, decide for themselves and what’s happening outside.
