On Wednesday the 6th of May, we arrived at the Midlands Park Hotel bright and early, full of excitement for the Green Flag Awards 2026 with EVE Estuary HUB’s Green Team.
From the moment we stepped inside, the energy was incredible. We explored all the Green Schools Energy displays and interactive activities from EirGrid. It was brilliant to see so many hands-on ways to learn about energy and sustainability, and even better to be surrounded by so many schools all working towards a greener future.
We then listened to inspiring talks from the Green Schools team, An Taisce, and EirGrid. The focus on sustainability, energy awareness, and climate action really set the tone for the day.
One of the highlights was the show and tell session, where every school had the chance to showcase the work they had been doing throughout the year.
Congratulations to all the schools who took part on the day — you were all absolutely amazing, and we really enjoyed watching and hearing about how your schools promoted energy awareness, encouraged sustainable habits, and made such a positive difference in your communities.
Together with our Zero Hero, we got to showcase all the hard work we’ve been doing this year for our Energy Award, including our Daily Swaps Challenge. Seeing our work featured on the big screen was a really proud moment for everyone involved.
Then came a very special moment — our school was called to accept our Green Schools Energy Award. It truly was a green come true for us!
A huge thank you to the Green Schools team, An Taisce, and EirGrid for an inspiring and brilliantly organised event. It was a fantastic celebration of all the amazing work happening in schools across the country, and we were very proud to be part of it.
What an unforgettable day — a true celebration of teamwork, sustainability, and climate action.
