The Trainee Committee Group took trip to Co. Kildare to visit the ‘Straffan Butterfly Farm’.
“The visit was very interesting and the drive to Kildare was beautiful. The scenery was delightful and it was a beautiful sunny day. Most of us had not passed through Leixlip village before, it was quaint and very charming.” – Catherine Reid
When you arrive at the farm there is a small reception area which houses some extraordinary creatures, for example: geckos, stick insects, leaf insects, bush crickets, lizards, snakes and more.
“We were all mesmerized by these interesting creatures.” – Catherine Reid
Next there is an enclosure which houses the butterflies and moths. Catherine described this as like entering “a magical garden”.
“The butterfly’s were fluttering freely in this enchanted space. It was colourful, bright and dazzling. It was a delightful experience. There were large butterflies with luminous colors, coming from countries as far afield as Peru.” – Catherine Reid
“The Butterflies had lovely colors, some were blue and others were yellow. The colors were magical.” – Pauline Rush.
After the Butterfly enclosure there is a room showing a documentary on the life cycle of a butterfly, from the chrysalis to the fully formed butterfly.
“I found the documentary very informative. It was so interesting seeing insects and butterflies from different parts of the world.” – Declan O’Neill
“It was a grand day down there. I’d love to go again. Thanks to Catherine for accompanying us on this trip it was really COOL!!!” – Anthony Murray
This trip reminded Catherine of a lovely Irish saying which she shared with her group.
An Irish Blessing
May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun.
And find your shoulder to light on.
To bring you luck, happiness and riches.
Today, tomorrow and beyond.
It looks good l would love to see it.
It’s A Lovely Picture!! And I Liked it To Go To See Myself!! 🙂
